Meercat's Laire
BIOGRAPHY
Me. Myself. What can honestly be said about me? In polite society, at any rate... My name is Vicki Martin, though I sometimes go by the internet nickname of Meercat. I was born in Jacinto City, a southerly suburb of Houston, Texas, in June of 1960, to Lushion and Thelma Martin. My father passed away ten days after my first birthday, so my mother raised me alone. I lived in Jacinto City until I was six years old but I was allergic to the city so we had to move. My mother and I moved to Bryan/College Station, Texas, in 1966. Except for one year when I worked at the Texas A&M University campus in Koriyama, Japan, I lived in B/CS from 1966 until 1997 at which time I relocated to Dallas, Texas. I'm there still. My mother was well on in years when I came along. Her morals and ideals were formed before the Great Depression. Mine were formed in the '60s. You see the problem, here. I will say that it made for an interesting childhood. I am single, never married (though I came close a time or two), no children. I don't smoke, drink very lightly, and usually cuss only when I stub my toe. I have one half-sister and one half-brother, both older than myself, with children and grandchildren of their own. I have two pets: a seven-year-old Terrier/Chow cross named Xena and a 2-year-old American longhair cat named Mystic. The only trait the dog Xena shares with her Warrior Princess namesake is a loud voice--Xena will bark a warning to me then she will run and hide under the bed. She warns me, the rest is up to me... My interests include a voracious appetite for books, particularly science fiction and fantasy, though I do occasionally pick up a romance novel. Mercedes Lackey and Anne McCaffrey are my favorite authors. As you can tell from the other pages in this website, I love to write fiction. I have been fortunate to have three short stories published in various mediums, and I hope soon to make favorable arrangements with an electronic book publisher for one of my novels. My favorite music is Celtic ballads, and I have a fondness for any song that features bagpipes, harp, and drum.. That's me. In a nutshell. Want to know more? Email me at texasmeercat@yahoo.com.
